Chevrolet's best-selling full-size pickup is getting one of its biggest updates in years. For 2027, the Silverado 1500 gets two all-new V8 engines, a restyled front end, much bigger standard screens, and a simplified seven-trim lineup. Official pricing is out, and the first trucks are due at dealerships in late 2026. Here is everything you need to know before you start shopping.
Quick answer: the 2027 Silverado 1500 starts at $38,600 for the Work Truck, or $41,395 once you add the $2,795 destination charge. The range tops out at $79,995 (destination included) for the off-road ZR2. You can choose from four engines: a 350-hp turbo four-cylinder, a 305-hp Duramax diesel, a 402-hp 5.7L V8 and a 481-hp 6.6L V8.

What's new for the 2027 Silverado 1500
- Two new V8s. A 5.7L V8 replaces the 5.3L, and a 6.6L V8 replaces the 6.2L. Both are part of GM's sixth-generation small-block family.
- A restyled look. The front end is more upright, with a vertical grille and revised LED lighting, plus new wheel and color options.
- Bigger standard screens. Every trim gets a 12.2-inch digital driver display and a 16.3-inch center touchscreen.
- More standard safety tech. Adaptive Cruise Control, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, front and rear park assist and a Safety Alert Seat now come on every trim.
- A simpler trim ladder. Chevrolet dropped the RST, LT and LTZ names. The lineup is now Work Truck, Custom, Silverado, Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, High Country and ZR2.
- Standard 10-speed automatic on the Work Truck and Custom, replacing the old eight-speed that was paired with the 2.7L engine.
2027 Silverado 1500 price by trim
These are the starting prices Chevrolet announced in September 2026, including the $2,795 destination charge.
Trim | Starting price (with destination) | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
Work Truck | $41,395 | $38,600 before destination. The entry point for work and fleet buyers. |
Custom | $46,395 | Adds dual exhaust and 34-inch off-road tires. |
Silverado | $50,695 | Super Cruise is available as an option. |
Custom Trail Boss | $57,195 | Off-road look and hardware at a lower price than the Trail Boss. |
Trail Boss | $63,995 | Super Cruise available. The 6.6L V8 is not offered. |
High Country | $74,495 | 22-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, Bose audio, Super Cruise standard. |
ZR2 | $79,995 | Duramax diesel standard, upgraded off-road suspension, Super Cruise standard. |
Chevrolet expects most buyers to stay under $60,000, which covers the Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss and Silverado trims.
How does that compare with 2026? The 2026 Work Truck listed at $39,695 including destination, so the 2027 version costs about $1,700 more at the entry level, according to The Truth About Cars. Treat that comparison with care. The 2027 trucks include far more standard equipment, and Chevrolet has not said which cab and bed configuration each starting price represents. All prices exclude taxes, title, registration, dealer fees and options.
Engines, towing and payload
The 2027 Silverado offers four powertrains. All of the gasoline engines use a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Engine | Horsepower | Torque | Max towing | Max payload |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Enhanced 2.7L TurboMax (4-cyl, turbo) | 350 hp | 455 lb-ft | 9,400 lb | 2,340 lb |
3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel (6-cyl) | 305 hp | 495 lb-ft | 12,000 lb | 1,870 lb |
5.7L V8 (L76) | 402 hp | 428 lb-ft | 13,700 lb | 2,170 lb |
6.6L V8 (L78) | 481 hp | 501 lb-ft | 9,700 lb | 1,510 lb |
The maximum figures only apply to specific cab, bed, drivetrain and trailering-package combinations, so your own truck's ratings will usually be lower. Check Chevrolet's trailering guide for the exact configuration you plan to order.
A few things worth noticing:
- The smaller V8 tows more. The 5.7L carries the highest tow rating at 13,700 pounds, about 4,000 pounds more than the best 6.6L configuration. Horsepower is not the same as towing capability. Chevrolet claims the 13,700-pound figure is best in class for a half-ton truck.
- The 5.7L is a real step up. It replaces the 5.3L, which made 355 hp and 383 lb-ft, so you gain roughly 47 hp and 45 lb-ft.
- The 6.6L is the power pick. GM says its 481 hp is the highest of any naturally aspirated V8 in the segment.
- The diesel keeps its output. Power is unchanged at 305 hp and 495 lb-ft, but GM says it reworked parts such as the pistons, turbo vanes and injectors for performance and reliability.
- The four-cylinder gets stronger. The updated 2.7L gains 40 hp and 25 lb-ft over the 2026 version.
Which engine comes on which trim?
- Work Truck, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado and Trail Boss: 2.7L turbo standard, with the 5.7L V8 or the Duramax as options.
- Custom: 2.7L turbo only.
- High Country: 5.7L V8 standard, with the 6.6L V8 or the Duramax as options.
- ZR2: Duramax diesel standard, with the 6.6L V8 as an option.
Interior and technology
Chevrolet put a lot of effort into the cabin, which was a common criticism of the previous generation compared with the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500.
- Screens: a 12.2-inch driver display and a 16.3-inch center screen on every trim. The High Country and ZR2 add an available front passenger display, and the ZR2's is 11.5 inches.
- Super Cruise hands-free driving: standard on the High Country and ZR2, and available on the Silverado and Trail Boss. GM says its hands-free trailering mode works on about 630,000 miles of compatible roads.
- Cameras: up to 11 available cameras, with 19 camera views on the Trail Boss and ZR2.
- Trailering tools: new features include Hitch Guidance with Hitch View, boat ramp assist and a brake gain assistant.
- Range: a new 34-gallon fuel tank is available with the V8s and the diesel. GM says the diesel with that tank can exceed 900 miles of highway range.
High Country and ZR2 upgrades
The top trims get hardware that used to require long option lists.
High Country: an up-level suspension, 22-inch wheels (up from 20 inches), a panoramic sunroof, 12-way power front seats with optional massage, Bose premium audio and ambient lighting.
ZR2: an upgraded Multimatic DSSV suspension with new jounce control dampers, 35-inch mud-terrain tires, an extended-range 34-gallon fuel tank, underbody cameras with built-in washers, massaging seats and a new Baja drive mode for fast sand and gravel driving.
Release date and where it's built
Chevrolet says the next-generation Silverado 1500 will start arriving at dealerships in late 2026. Pricing was announced on September 18, 2026. The trucks are built at GM's full-size truck plants in Flint, Michigan, and Tonawanda, New York, and the new V8 engines are made in Flint, Tonawanda and St. Catharines, Ontario.
Availability will vary by dealer and trim, so ask your local Chevrolet dealer about allocation and ordering timelines.
How it stacks up against rivals
Edmunds says the update helps the Silverado compete more strongly with the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500. Chevrolet's biggest claims are its towing leadership with the 5.7L V8 and the segment-leading output of the 6.6L. Those are manufacturer claims, so wait for independent tests and real-world reviews before treating them as settled. If you want to see the other end of the pickup price scale, read our breakdown of the 2027 Slate Truck, a small electric pickup priced at $24,950 before destination.
Which Silverado makes sense for you?
- Best value: the Custom or Silverado trims, where Chevrolet expects most sales. You get the standard tech upgrades without a luxury-truck price.
- Heavy towing: look at the 5.7L V8 with the Max Trailering Package. If you tow long distances and want torque, the Duramax diesel is the other option.
- Off-road: compare the Trail Boss with the ZR2. The Trail Boss is cheaper, but only the ZR2 offers the 6.6L V8 and the upgraded DSSV suspension.
- Hands-free driving: Super Cruise is standard only on the High Country and ZR2. On other trims it is an extra.
- Fuel economy: we did not find official fuel-economy ratings in the sources we reviewed. Check fueleconomy.gov once the EPA publishes them for your engine.

Final thoughts
The 2027 Silverado 1500 is a meaningful upgrade rather than a light refresh. The new V8s, bigger screens and extra standard safety tech make the entry price feel more reasonable, even though it climbs about $1,700 at the Work Truck level. If you are shopping for a half-ton pickup, put the Silverado on your list, compare the real configuration prices at your dealer, and wait for independent reviews before you decide.
